Setting up a directory entry

The ability to set up a directory entry is included in the standard Walkingworld subscription. It's a very good way to promote a location-based business or organisation, like a B&B, walking club or website. You may well have seen a listing of 'Walkingworld members near this walk' on many of the walks.

The directory entry creates a page on the site with text information and a picture plus, if you wish, links to your email address, website and a map showing your location.

The directory uses your geographical location as the way of linking with the nearby walks. In Britain you can enter your postcode and we will work out your latitude and longitude; in France and Spain you need to find out your latitude and longitude (perhaps from Google Maps or Multimap) and enter them manually.

If you want to be featured on walks in an area where you don't actually have a property (for instance if you run your organisation from Glasgow but offer holidays in the Lake District) there is nothing to stop you entering the postcode of the tourist office in Ambleside, say, on your entry.

In fact we are perfectly happy if you have multiple memberships and multiple entries - you get one directory entry per membership - but you will need to use different email addresses for each membership.

You can set up your directory by clicking the link at the top of the page to 'My Directory' or 'My Walks'. This takes you into the My Walkingworld area of the site. You'll see the tab for My Directory on the right.
