December 2017

We wish you some happy walking this Christmas!
2017 has been a busy year at Walkingworld, for us at 'HQ', for our website and app developers and for our walk contributors who have added several hundred new walks, both in Britain and abroad. There have been some fantastic new routes - who would have thought that with over 7000 walks there would still be plenty more to discover?

If you haven't already done so, do try the Walkingworld app, which is available for Android and iOS phones. It offers a nice easy way to follow your winter walks, on 'proper' Ordnance Survey maps if you have a Walkingworld subscription or have bought an individual walk.

You'll find the app on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store by searching for 'Walkingworld' (all one word). It's quite a small download for the app but note that the walk details and maps are significantly larger so it's best done on wifi rather than mobile data.

If you need help we'll be responding right over Christmas and New Year, although perhaps a little more slowly than usual on some days....

The 'other' Algarve...
"If you like walking holidays with variety then you'll love this one. There are woods, hills, quiet tracks, sand dunes, wildlife, flowers galore, sea views, valley views, beautiful, quiet places to sit and relax in tiny bays and isolated countryside."

This description of the Algarve, from a recent review of Inntravel's coast-to-coast walking holiday, might sound a world away from the lively resorts for which the region is known, but Portugal's sunny south is full of delightful surprises.

Winding gently from the honeyed southern cliffs of the south to the wilder western shores, the route is a leisurely exploration of an authentic, timeless and temptingly tranquil land. Breakfast with the locals, spend the night in a once-abandoned village, watch the fishermen at work and see the marine storks swooping over dramatic cliffs – this holiday unveils the heart and soul of the region.

To continue your discovery, why not add a couple of nights in Faro? Often dismissed as just a gateway to the Algarve's resorts, this compact waterfront city is packed full of old-world charm and is well worth more than a flying visit.
